Trover Health System

Emergency Department

Welcome to the Emergency Department at Trover Health System where we are committed to providing excellent care, every time. Patients seen in this area of the heath system typically have very urgent conditions. We understand this may be a stressful or scary time so we'd like to explain how the Emergency Department works.
We make every effort to make your visit to the Emergency Department as brief as possible. However, we may need to give priority to patients who arrive after you, depending on their condition. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Urgent or Not?

Not sure if you should seek emergency care? Symptoms considered emergencies include:

  • Allergic reactions that cause breathing problems
  • Bleeding that doesn't stop after 10 minutes of direct pressure
  • Broken bones
  • Earaches with high fever
  • Fever with convulsions or extremely high fevers, especially in infants
  • Heart attack symptoms, including shortness of breath, chest discomfort, nausea or excessive sweating
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Poisoning
  • Seizures
  • Stroke symptoms, including sudden confusion, dizziness, headache, slurred speech, or numbness in the face, arm or leg
  • Severe pain

When You Get Here

  • Walk-in patients will immediately be seen by a nurse who will evaluate your symptoms.
  • Patients not experiencing life threatening injuries or ailments, such as chest pain, will be asked to proceed to Registration where we will gather your medical information. A representative will ask you for information as such your name and phone number. (Insurance and payment information will be taken after you have been seen by a medical provider.)
  • In some cases, you may have x-rays, lab work, or other tests before you are seen by a physician to expedite your care.

Factors That May Influence Your Wait Time

Our goal is to provide timely treatment to everyone. There are many circumstances that affect waiting times.

  • Patients arriving by ambulance - These patients tend to be very sick and require immediate attention. Ambulance patients arrive through a separate door. Patients who arrive with life threatening and more serious injuries and ailments are always seen before those with non-life threatening issues.
  • Testing and lab work - We will do our best to let you know how long we anticipate the wait for results of any blood tests or x-rays you receive.
  • If you require the care of a specialist - If your situation requires us to contact a specialist such as a heart doctor, your wait time may be impacted.
  • If you are admitted to the hospital - If you need to be admitted to the hospital, you may have to wait for your room to become available.

Patient/Visitor Responsibilities

  • Please turn off your cell phones when entering the Emergency Department. Cell phone may interfere with our equipment. Your care may be delayed if you are talking on the phone.
  • We ask that you not eat or drink anything while you are waiting for treatment without first checking with the triage staff.
  • Threats, violence, abuse and/or the possession of a weapon on these premises is not prohibited and we will call the police.
  • Your privacy and confidentiality are very important to us. Therefore, we ask that you limit visitation of family and friends to two visitors at the bedside. A patient representative will let your family know when they may come back to see you. Clergy or your spiritual advisor is given special consideration when identified by you and are allowed to visit in addition to your family members for brief periods of time.

It is critical that you not leave the Emergency Department without being seen by a medical provider. It is our policy that if you choose to do so, you must speak to a nurse and sign a document stating you understand the risks. Leaving the Emergency Department without being seen could endanger your life.
